EPIC PEOPLE

“Portraiture is something I have always included in my practice”, says Mach. “Sometimes, they are individual or family portraits. Other times, they represent what goes on around us in the world emphasising events both challenging and joyful.
In any case, the result is always super charged with what makes us human. I want people to look and question what make us who we are, what make us tick. I want people to never forget that we are social beings and we are in it together.
That what’s EPIC is about. That’s the vision and that involves YOU.
The project started with figures I made, 3D scanning friends just to illustrate the scale of some of my public sculpture. I had no idea that the painting of these figures would become so detailed as to hold the patterns on jerseys and tattoos on arms and the results would be so full of life. They had so much pathos and are individually so recognisable. The scanning picked up how people stood, what kind of attitude they had. I found looking at just one of these small figures quite emotional. They hold so much humanity. Standing in front of 1000+ of them, confronted with that many, I can only imagine being overwhelmed by love, peace, joy, happiness and a sense of ‘togetherness’. “

Participation costs £400 per person AND each sitter receives their 1:10 scale figure in a custom display box, while the second version will join the touring exhibition.
EPIC People will bring together over 1,000 individual portraits, standing side by side in a single art installation. The work will tour major venues across the UK and beyond, beginning at Pangolin Gallery London in 2027.
